How To Chat

(basic chat operation instructions)

• Send a post:     Notice the large textbox near the bottom of the screen. Type your word into that box, and when done press chat. To get new messages simply press chat. To make a new line within your message use the return key of your keyboard. Two returns will give a blank line between posts.

• Change Your Handle:     Your handle is the name you are represented by. To change it simply put a new name that you make up in the "handle box". If you wish to change the color, size or style of it you can add HTML to it. For additional HTML instructions click the HTML button on the Menu above.

• Scroll Back:     (how to see posts you missed).
  If there are some posts that you missed or you simply wish to see them again, you can scroll back. Put the number of posts you would like to look back in the scroll back box and press chat.

• See pictures:     Click the "Show pic" box.

  ---

• Change your picture:     put the URL of the picture in the "picture URL box". It will look something like this "http://www.sfwest.com/picture1.gif"

• Find a picture:     use your favorite search engine to go to a homepage with pictures you like. Click on the picture with your right mouse button and select the option that says "View Image" It should tell you at that time the format of the image (GIF, JPG, BMP, etc) When you view the image, the URL will show up in the Location Box at the top of your browser and you can copy it down.

• Resize picture:     In the picture box put height = 100 and/or width = 100 (or some other number) after the picture URL.

• New line:     press the carriage return key in the textarea box. Two returns gives a blank line between the words.

• Clickable link:     To give a button that someone can click on to go somewhere, you put the URL of the link in the "textarea box". It will look something like this. "http://www.sfwest.com/WW.html"

• The "Plaintext" box:     is for putting in html that you want to show in its unprocessed state so you can show others how to change their fonts (etc). Links actual address can also be shown there.
